As of now, the San Diego Community College District has not been able to say definitively what to expect for Fall 2020. We know that every class that can move online will be taught online. We still do not know whether we will be meeting in person for any classes.
This impacts Drama, as many of our classes are hands-on. We have had to do some juggling of our schedule, and we wanted to share with you some changes we have in store for the fall.
It is very likely that Urinetown will be completely postponed until Spring 2021. We would need to meet in person to be able to rehearse and produce the show, and it is doubtful we will have that opportunity. Professor Kate Neff Stone will be directing and producing the David Ives comedy Mere Mortals. It may be rehearsed and performed completely online, or it may be a hybrid of some kind. Please check in with her at kstone@sdccd.edu with your questions.
We will be adding some exciting classes to the fall schedule:
- Intermediate Playwriting, DRAM 118, will be offered for the first time. If you've already taken DRAM 108, Beginning Playwriting and you want to continue with your writing, here's your opportunity. It will be completely online.
- Scene Painting (Beginning and Intermediate) will offered. This usually only runs in the spring, but it will run this fall. It is a 12-week class that begins September 14. Days/times: MW 4:20 - 7:00
- Acting for Film and Television, DRAM 119, is returning! This class hasn't been offered since Spring 2017. If we're permitted to be on campus, it will be taught in the television studio. Days/times: MW 10:05 - 12:35. Otherwise it will be completely online.
Unfortunately, we have had to cancel a few classes:
- DRAM 124, Makeup for the Stage
- DRAM 134, Beginning Voice for Actors
- DRAM 143, Beginning Costuming
- DRAM 243C, Technical Theatre Practicum-Scenic (the class that builds the float for the MLK parade in January)
We will be offering 124, 134, and 143 in Spring 2021, and we plan to run 243C in Intersession. If you need any of these classes in the FALL semester to graduate, please contact Katie Rodda ASAP at krodda@sdccd.edu.
In the next week or so, we'll be letting everyone know exactly what classes are being offered and who is teaching them. We thank you for your patience--we miss being on campus and look forward to SEEING you all soon.
