The 3rd Annual Words, Words, Words: New Play Festival
Performances : March 9-18, 2018 - The Black Box Theatre at San Diego City College.

This year we are awarding cash prizes for themes and social topics related to the plays for next year's fest.


$250 for Best Play
$250 for Best LGBT Experience
$250 for Best African-American Experience
$250 for Best Hispanic Experience
Submission Guidelines:
·       If your play is selected you must enroll for the Spring 2018 semester at SD City College. If selected student playwright must be available on varying dates for workshops, talk backs and productions between Jan 30-Mar 18, 2018. No exceptions. If you have participated in previous New Play Festivals you may submit again.
·       All plays must be properly formatted. This means: 12-point font, Times New Roman or Courier font only. Monologues should not exceed 4 pages. Ten-Minute plays cannot exceed 10 pages.  No Exceptions on the page limits.
·       Monologues must have one character.
·       Ten-Minute plays should have no more than two characters. A third character is permitted as long as that character serves the play. No exceptions beyond three characters.
·       Ten Minute plays should have a single setting.
·       Selected Playwrights will be work-shopped the first two weeks of the Spring 2018 Semester. All plays are considered workshop productions and will be treated as such. This means that if your play is selected you will work with the dramaturg and director of your show to find its final form. Playwriting is a process and your play, if selected, will be treated as such. San Diego City College is an educational institution and is committed to the development of student writers. This means that all work is considered “in progress.”  It is the goal of The One Act Festival to foster new playwrights. That means that students must be malleable and open to continuing the development of their scripts.
·       The festival will be a collection of 6-9 selected monologues and 10 Minute Plays/monologues.
·       To submit email SDCityCollegeNewPlayFestival@Gmail.com with the log line: 2018 One-Act Festival Submission. Include all information in a single document in either Microsoft WORD or PDF. DO NOT cut and paste your play into the context of the email. Attachments onlyDue December 9!

AUDITIONS FOR THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES: December 5!

Auditions are Tuesday, December 5 from 6 - 9 p.m. in AH 418.

No acting experience needed. Just show up and be yourself.

All women and non-binary folk are invited to audition.

Performance is February 23, 2018.

Performance: She Kills Monsters, Theodore and Adele Shank Theatre  
by Qui Nguyen A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games, She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly's Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly's refuge.
