City College and Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival

On March 7, opening performance of the New Play Festival, Robin Russin from UC Riverside came to the Black Box Theatre. He is a representative from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, and he provided feedback to the actors and the playwrights.

And on April 19, Ryan Scrimger from the University of San Diego came to give feedback to the cast and crew of Heathers The Musical. Here are a few photos from the Heathers talkback.

And the Respondents selected four actors (two from each show) to compete in the Irene Ryan Scholarship Competition at the KCACTF Conference in Fullerton in February. Huge congratualations to William James, Louis Estrada, Luis Sherlinee, and Genia Santini!

Rob Norberg is retiring!

Rob Norberg, City College's Technical Theatre Director, is RETIRING after 40 years of service. (Yeah, probably most people reading this blog weren't even born before he started working here ...)

On May 23, we threw him a farewell party. Here are some photos:

Visit from the cast of Sweat

On April 25, actors Monique Gaffney and Markuz Rodriguez from the San Diego Repertory Theatre came to the Black Box to talk about their experiences performing in the Lynn Nottage play Sweat. With them was Kim Montelilbano Heil, the Associate Artistic Director from the REP. 

In addition to talking about their journey as actors, Kim led a discussion about EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) in casting. These are important conversations to have!
