Intern opportunity at Intrepid Theatre

Intrepid Theatre Company is seeking qualified candidates for a paid internship program beginning in September. Interns will support artistic direction, education and technology and be an integral part of day-to-day operations at Intrepid, with access to rehearsals and artistic guidance. This position provides a unique opportunity to play a meaningful role in the expansion of Intrepid's community partnerships and education initiatives, as well as to support the mainstage productions.

Each intern will play a critical role supporting a small and busy team. The internship program will consist of three primary areas of focus: Artistic Direction, Education, Technology. Responsibilities specific to each role are listed below. Internships are paid positions. Work will happen on site at the Horton Grand Theatre in downtown San Diego and remotely. 

Artistic Director Intern

• Conduct dramaturgical research
• Liaise with community partners supporting mainstage productions and outreach initiatives such as Exiled Voices: The Refugee Art Experience 
• Coordinate event planning for surround events
• Capture content for social media 
• Interact with subscribers 

Education Intern

• Support coordination of the Shakespeare for a New Generation and Exiled Voices Education Tours 
• Communicate with schools and teachers
• Liaise with parents for after school programs and summer camp programs

Technology Intern

• Contribute to launch of website for Exiled Voices: The Refugee Art Experience
• Maintain current website
• Build communication options through website
• Provide graphic design support

Qualifications for all positions

• excellent written and oral communications skills
• pursuing post-secondary education 
• excellent time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines and prioritize with minimal direction
• ability to work as a team as well as independently
• ability to begin position in September

Congratulations! Casting was a very challenging decision but I am so happy that you are all involved in this wonderful experience. A few things…

1) You MUST email me… mthompso@sdccd.edu to confirm that you have accepted the role. If you do NOT accept the role, please contact me and let me know ASAP.

2) First rehearsal will be Tuesday, August 29 from 3:30-6pm in building AH 418. You MUST be at this rehearsal in order to receive an add code. You must add this class no later that Thursday evening. No exceptions. We will be reading the script, doing cuts, and a few PowerPoints as well as language based work.  If you are going to be late let me know.

3) Our next rehearsal will be August 31 from 5:30-9pm in the Saville Theatre.

4) Please purchase the specific ARDEN edition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream from the bookshop. It will be available Monday night. You must use this specific version of the show because of the cuts that I have made. No exceptions. You cannot use any other version of the play. You will not be allowed to rehearse until you purchase the book. I cannot have twenty different versions of the text, so please purchase the book.

Set in the mid-1950s, this reimagined Shakespearean comedy finds the beatnik poets and musicians having taken over the back alleys of the “fairyland,” while the conservative world of Theseus’s Athens, Inc. finds love in all the wrong places. (Looking for actors with movement skills and those who play instruments.)

Thursday, August 24, 6 – 10 pm, Saville Theatre

Call backs: Friday, August 25, times TBD.

Prepare a 1-2-minute monologue. If you would like to be considered for Midsummer, and you have a classical monologue prepared, feel free to do that as well. If you don’t have a classical monologue prepared, you may be given lines from a Shakespearean play to read.

Rehearsals for Electricidad will be M-Th, 4 – 7 and some weekends. Rehearsals for Midsummer will be M-Th, 5 – 9 and some weekends.
