Congratulations to our Playwrights!
The Dramatic Arts Program at City College is thrilled to announce an excellent lineup of new works selected for our 2021 Festival of New Plays! All plays are written by City College students.
The 2021 Festival of New Plays will include the following short plays:
“Te Extraño” by Natalia Araiza: a young woman and her mother have a conversation about her participation in an upcoming rally
“There are No Sunrises” by Denessa L. Cazares: a child of immigrants becomes a witness to losing a parent to ICE
“Purple” by Gabriela D’Amico: following a confession of long-hidden attraction, Olivia and Adam are forced to take a hard look at their relationship
“Transitioning on Your Last Days” by Eriel Encinitas: a caregiver recalls the final days of a patient
“Unpresidented” by Brody Gogatz: a musical concerning Donald Trump
“53 Years” by Brody Gogatz: a recalling of the loss of a parent to police violence
“How We Talk About Racism” by Kaileykielle Hoga: taken from interviews with four diverse San Diego women, this documentary-style play discusses uncomfortable truths about race in San Diego
“Three Things” by Eddy Lukovic: during the turbulent summer of 2020, fueled by the pandemic and racial unrest, a professor and his students learn they have more in common than they originally thought
“Refugee” by Thomas Moon: after the collapse of civilization, a group of survivors seek to carve out a life for themselves

Hunger Action Day: January 25
All are welcome to sign up and receive a free bag of food and produce. We understand that with the new stay-at-home orders, receiving food is still essential to helping students and families during these difficult times. Please encourage your friends and family to sign up and and attend so we can have an accurate count of resources needed to host these events. We are given a limited supply of products based on sign ups.
What: Hunger Action Day Food Distribution
Where: Lot P8 (behind the LRC)
When: Monday, January 25, 2021: Food Distribution: 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Who: Open to all students, classified professionals, and faculty (Sign-up required--see link below)
Due to increased COVID restrictions, we will be limiting the event to a drive thru only option. In order to follow social distancing guidelines, the food distribution will be a "no touch" model. Attendees will not leave their cars. Food will be placed directly in the trunk of the vehicle by volunteers.
