ATTENTION PLAYWRIGHTS!
SEEKING ORIGINAL SHORT PLAYS
BY CITY COLLEGE STUDENTS
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS
DECEMBER 9, 2020
The Festival is a collection of 6 - 10 selected monologues and 10-15-minute plays. This year we are particularly interested in plays relating to Social Justice issues.
For questions, contact Kate Neff Stone, kstone@sdccd.edu.
Submission Guidelines:
- If your play is selected, you must enroll in DRAM 244A-D for 1 unit for the Spring 2021 semester at City College. Student playwrights must be available on varying dates for workshops, talk-backs, and productions as scheduled. No exceptions.
- All plays must be properly formatted. This means 12-point font, Times New Roman or Courier only. Monologues should not exceed 4 pages. 10-15-minute plays should, preferably, not exceed 15 pages. Longer plays, up to 30 pages, may be considered.
- Monologues must have one character.
- Plays should have no more than four characters.
- Plays should have a single setting.
- Selected plays will be workshopped the first two weeks of the Spring 2021 semester. All plays are considered workshop productions and will be treated as such. This means that if your play is selected, you will work with the dramaturge and director of your show to find its final form. Playwriting is a process. San Diego City College is an educational institution and is committed to the development of student writers. It is the goal of the New Play Festival to foster new playwrights. That means that students must be open to continuing the development of their scripts.
To submit, fill out this Google form, and upload your play as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf.
CASH PRIZES are offered to the Best Play, selected by a panel of judges.
Happy writing!
