Drama program seeking Work Study students for Spring 2020

Are you a student who receives Financial Aid? Would you like to work for the Drama program to fulfill your Work Study award?

If so, go to the Financial Aid office and ask to be assigned to Duane Gardella in Drama. You would be helping to build the sets, clean and repair the scenery and props, and assist in other production duties.

Questions: contact Duane at duanegardella@mac.com.

ATTENTION PLAYWRIGHTS!

Seeking original short plays by

San Diego City College students for the

5th Annual New Play Festival

Performances : March 5-14, 2020 - The Black Box Theatre at San Diego City College

Submission Guidelines:
·         If your play is selected you must enroll in DRAMA 244 for 1.0 unit for the Spring 2020 semester. If selected, you must be available on varying dates for workshops, rehearsals, talk backs, and performances from January 30 — March 14, 2020. No exceptions.
·         All plays must be properly formatted. This means: 12-point font, Times New Roman or Courier font only. Monologues should not exceed 4 pages. Ten-minute plays cannot exceed 10 pages. No Exceptions on the page limits.
·         The festival will be a collection of 6-9 selected monologues and ten-minute Plays.
·         Monologues must have one character.
·         Ten-minute plays should have no more than two characters. A third character is permitted as long as that character serves the play. No exceptions beyond three characters.
·         Ten-minute plays should have a single setting.
·         Selected plays will be workshopped during the first two weeks of the Spring 2020 semester. All plays are considered workshop productions and will be treated as such. This means that if your play is selected, you will work with the dramaturg and/or director of your show to find its final form. Playwriting is a process. San Diego City College is an educational institution and is committed to the development of student writers. This means that all original work is considered “in progress.” It is the goal of the New Play Festival to foster new playwrights. That means that students must be open to continuing the development of their scripts.
·         Send your submissions to SDCityCollegeNewPlayFestival@gmail.com with the log line: 2020 One-Act Festival Submission. Include all information in a single document in either Microsoft WORD or PDF. DO NOT cut and paste your play into the body of the email. Attachments only! The deadline to submit is Sunday, December 8, 2019.
Happy writing!
