An Invitation: The Great Khan Final Dress

Wed Mar 2, at 7:00PM

The San Diego REP team are delighted to invite the Faculty and Staff of SDCCD to a performance of The Great Khan.

The Great Khan is a timeless story about growing up, discovering your true self and the challenges of being Black in America. Loveable gamer nerd Jayden meets quirky dreamer Ant in very unusual circumstances… Both teens are trying to figure out how to define themselves — and then Genghis Khan shows up.

Hailed as a "fully realized fantasia" by Broadway World and "brilliant" by Talkin’ Broadway, The Great Khan is the new comedy from award-winning playwright Michael Gene Sullivan. This provocative, playful work was featured in San Diego REP’s Black Voices Reading Series last year, and was an immediate hit. It was then swiftly picked up to be fully staged as part of the REP’s current season and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Discount tickets to the La Jolla Playhouse!

Bhangin’ It is an exhilarating new musical that celebrates the traditions we inherit from yesterday and those we create for tomorrow. When a young woman finds her identity cannot be defined by checking a box, she sets off on a quest to dance to her own beat. Drawing from competitive Bhangra and mixing it with other Indian and Western dance forms alike, Bhangin’ It is a brash, intoxicating and joyous musical for America today.

Callbacks for Urinetown

Please read to the bottom of this email--there is a lot of information here.

Thank you to everyone who came out for auditions tonight. We are grateful for your enthusiasm and expertise. Callbacks will be Friday, February 4 from 3:30 - 6:30 in the Black Box Theatre. Be prepared to dance: wear clothes you can move in and close-toed shoes with rubber soles--dance shoes, if you have them. And bring water.

The following people are called back for Urinetown:

Henrique Tadeu Machado: Ensemble

Gabriel Adelman: Ensemble and Bobby

Joshua De La Cruz: Ensemble and Lockstock

Vincent Bossone: Ensemble and Lockstock

Aldo Ley: Ensemble

Angel Lopez Rodriguez: Ensemble

Hunter Martinez: Ensemble and Bobby

Joshua Penrod: Ensemble and Bobby

Tess Karesky: Ensemble and Pennywise

Valeri Walker: Ensemble and Pennywise

Victoria Garcia: Ensemble

Nicole Ogata: Ensemble and Hope

Frida Sanchez: Ensemble

Ann Garcia: Ensemble and Hope

Jamie Barker: Ensemble and Hope

Valynsia Sims: Ensemble and Lockstock

Alan Ramos: Ensemble and Lockstock

Roxy Camargo: Ensemble

Gary Tallaksen: Cladwell

Carly Stacy: Little Sally

Please note that everyone is called for the ensemble. We would like to hear some of you sing for particular roles, so that is indicated above. Please be aware that even if you are not called for a specific role right now, we may ask you to sing for that role at callbacks.

We want you to have a great callback tomorrow, so to ensure that this will happen, Music Director Richard Morrison has provided sheet music AND recordings for you to practice with before tomorrow. I sent an email to all of you which contains the music. (Joshua Penrod and Ann Garcia, I couldn't find your email addresses, so please email me at krodda@sdccd.edu and I'll send you the files.) All of the recordings have two tracks: a rehearsal track and a performance track. "Reh" means it has the vocal melody on it as well as the piano accompaniment. "Perf" means it's just the accompaniment, so you can practice with what Richard's live accompaniment will sound like. For the Ensemble side only, there are two rehearsal tracks, one with the higher octave melody (altos and sopranos) and one with the lower octave melody (basses and tenors).

So please take advantage of these! I also encourage you to listen to the entire soundtrack, and if you can, watch one of the many recordings of Urinetown on YouTube, to get an idea of the show.

If you are not able to make it to callbacks, please email me at krodda@sdccd.edu. If you are also called back for the New Play Festival, please bring a snack since you wont' have much of a break between callbacks.

Questions? Email me ASAP at krodda@sdccd.edu. Break a leg!
